Perl is a high-level programming language with roots in C, sed, awk and shell scripting. Perl is good at handling processes and files, and is especially good at handling text. Perl's hallmarks are practicality and efficiency. While it is used to do a lot of different things, Perl's most common applications are system administration utilities and web programming. - It has many features to process text files and to do system management tasks (as in Perl). - It is simple, straight-forward, extensible, and portable, and free. - It has simple syntax, partially inspired by Eiffel and Ada. - All data in Ruby is an object, not in the sense of Python or Perl, but in the sense of Smalltalk: no exceptions. commit log from Hanspeter Niederstrasser (nieder@users.sourceforge.net): ruby32: v3.2.62024-11-13: blt-2.4z-163 (Toolkit for tcl/tk)

The bsdtar program is FreeBSD's modern implementation of tar based on the libarchive. It started as a test harness, but has grown into a feature-competitive replacement for GNU tar. The libarchive is a stream-oriented library for variety of archives. It focuses on tar format and its variants primarily, but can also read and/or write other families of archive formats. Following formats are supported ('r' for reading and 'w' for writing). On read, compression and format are always detected automatically. GnuTLS is a project that aims to develop a library which provides a secure layer, over a reliable transport layer. Currently the GnuTLS library implements the proposed standards by the IETF's TLS working group. Quoting from RFC2246 - the TLS 1.0 protocol specification: "The TLS protocol provides communications privacy over the Internet. The protocol allows client/server applications to communicate in a way that is designed to prevent eavesdropping, tampering, or message forgery." commit log from sth0 (sth@magnet.fsu.edu): gnutls30-3.7 patch for updated compiler, int declaration in certs.c added.2024-11-12: wget-gnutls-idn-1.25.0-1 (Automatic web site retriever (SSL))
GNU Wget is a free network utility to retrieve files from the World Wide Web using HTTP and FTP, the two most widely used Internet protocols. It works non-interactively, thus enabling work in the background, after having logged off. The recursive retrieval of HTML pages, as well as FTP sites is supported -- you can use Wget to make mirrors of archives and home pages, or traverse the web like a WWW robot. There have been significant changes since version 1.13.x: * All variants include internationalization support. * The "wget-gnutls" package uses GNUTLS instead of OpenSSL. * The "wget-idn" and "wget-gnutls-idn" packages add IDN/IRIs support. commit log from Hanspeter Niederstrasser (nieder@users.sourceforge.net): wget 1.25.02024-11-12: wget-idn-1.25.0-1 (Automatic web site retriever (SSL))
* The "wget-idn" and "wget-gnutls-idn" packages add IDN/IRIs support. commit log from Hanspeter Niederstrasser (nieder@users.sourceforge.net): wget 1.25.02024-11-12: wget-1.25.0-1 (Automatic web site retriever (SSL))

The purpose of ncftp is to provide a powerful and flexible interface to the Internet standard File Transfer Protocol. It is intended to replace the stock ftp program that comes with the system. Some of the cooler features include progress meters, file- name completion, command-line editing, background process- ing, auto-resume downloads, bookmarking, cached directory listings, host redialing, working with firewalls and prox- ies, downloading entire directory trees, etc., etc. commit log from sth0 (sth@magnet.fsu.edu): ncftp fix for macOS 15 / Xcode 16.1, patched configure to explicitly define main() to return int2024-11-11: gengetopt-2.23-3 (Generates getopt_long functions)
gengetopt takes an easy-to-do description of options and generates a C function that uses the GNU getopt_long(3) function to parse the options and validate them. gengetopt is GNU software, but the code generated is not under any particular license. gengetopt is perfect if you are too lazy to write all the stuff required to call GNU getopt_long(3), or if you have a program and wish it took many options. The generated code works if you use autoconf or automake. commit log from Daniel Macks (dmacks@netspace.org): gengetopt: don't install-info in InstallScript
